Kagan decided to make the product available to everyone after attaining exceptional growth and 1 million devoted users in just four years.
Previously known as SumoMe, the company ditched the “me” in 2017 when it paid $1.5 million for the domain name Sumo.com.
Sumo’s services are divided into three categories: email, social sharing, and analytics. Sumo now offers 12 tools, with the fundamental functionalities of all of them available for free according to the company’s freemium approach. How To Install Sumo App on WordPress
Shopify, Tumblr, Weebly, Squarespace, and Blogspot are just a few of the website-building platforms that Sumo works with. We WordPress users, on the other hand, have it the easiest because we can install the specialised Sumo plugin to add all of the features to our site.
To install Sumo, go to Plugins > Add New > search for ‘Sumo’ > click Install Now > Activate Plugin in your WordPress dashboard.
Connecting your Sumo account to your WordPress site is the next step. Log in using your Sumo credentials by clicking the blue crown symbol in the top-right corner of the screen – you can also establish an account if you don’t have one currently.
To access the exclusive Sumo interface, click the blue crown once again. This initial screen displays the entire Sumo app suite.
The apps are all inactive by default, so simply toggle the on/off button next to each one to enable the ones you want. Even free users have access to all 13 apps at the same time.
You may adjust each program after you’ve activated it by clicking on its icon. Let’s put a few of them to the test.
List Builder App
The List Builder program is used to create pop-up email opt-in forms. You’ll see an overview of your primary analytics after clicking the “List Builder” icon, including a daily breakdown of pop-ups shown, subscribers, and conversion rate.
The first step in creating your pop-up email opt-in form is to create a new campaign. After that, go to Popups and A/B Tests and click the Add New Popup option.
The Sumo editor will open once you click the pop-up tab. This is where you can make all of your changes. The UI is extremely user-friendly, allowing you to choose from 37 different themes before tweaking the fonts, text, sizes, and colours.
You can also choose an objective for your pop-up, such as a call-to-action button, email collection, or growing your social network following.
You can also get a live preview of your modifications and switch between the “subscribe” and “success” messages.
Before you finish, make sure you’ve gone through all of the tabs. The “Fields tab” lets you choose which fields to show, and the “Behavior tab” lets you choose which pop-up triggers to show — You can choose between an exit intent and a time delay using Sumo.
You can also add custom HTML and tracking pixels to your optin form using the other tabs. When you’re finished, click the Save button.
Having used a number of list-building plugins in the past, it’s worth mentioning that the Sumo builder lacks the intricacy of similar services like Thrive Leads. But I don’t believe this is really concerning. While a large number of plugins can quickly lead to confusion, Sumo will provide you peace of mind.
A/B Testing And Targeting Features
Making a list isn’t something you do once and then forget about. To increase conversion, you must continue to test, improve, and refine your opt-in forms. Sumo, fortunately, comes with an A/B testing option built-in.
The split testing option kicks in once you’ve built more than one pop-up form. With the use of a simple slider, you can choose how often each pop-up appears.
After the test has ran for a while, you’ll be able to compare the performance of each pop-up. After you’ve chosen a winner, you can delete the undesirable pop-up and replace it with a new one. It’s a hands-on method, but it provides you complete control over the process.
Aside from that, the “form targeting” option is very beneficial. This allows you to focus on the exact location where a pop-up appears. The good news is that you can target your forms based on a variety of criteria, including URLs, page visits, user devices, referral domains, and user location.
Finally, you have the option of setting up a “click trigger.” You can use click triggers to add links to your content that will open a pop-up when clicked. If you want your pop-ups to be less annoying to your visitors, this is a great tool to have.
Content Analytics App
As bloggers and content marketers, we frequently make the mistake of assuming that our readers will read our content from beginning to end because it must be epic.
But that not the case.
Another good tool for answering this issue is Sumo’s Content Analytics app. It keeps track of how far users scroll on your page before departing.
Because many bloggers include a call-to-action (CTA) beneath their content, this is a very handy tool. This helps you target the most engaged readers, but if only 10% of your visitors make it to the bottom of your blog article, wouldn’t it be more sensible to put the CTA higher up the page, where it would be seen by more people?
To use this invaluable feature, simply open the “Content Analytics app” and then select the “Record New Campaign” option for This Page.
Then navigate to the “Auto Record tab,” which will allow you to choose which pages to track – or you can simply select to track all pages if that’s what you want.
Finally, on the overview screen, you can see what proportion of your blog entries your visitors are reading on average.
Google Analytics App
The majority of webmasters nowadays use Google Analytics to analyse their visitors and fine-tune their website’s performance by examining key on-site metrics.
Although Google Analytics is an excellent tool, switching back and forth between your WordPress dashboard and Analytics can be inconvenient and time consuming. You won’t have to if you use Sumo’s Google Analytics feature, since you’ll be able to monitor your website’s analytics straight from the Sumo interface on your WordPress dashboard.
After you’ve clicked the Google Analytics symbol, the next step is to connect Google Analytics to your site by clicking the Connect button, which will produce a pop-up where you can log in to your Google account and grant Sumo the required permissions.
Click Next after selecting a website from your portfolio. That’s all there is to it.
The Google Analytics overview will now appear anytime you click the Analytics icon on Sumo — including session duration, traffic figures, and bounce rate.
You may have a good knowledge of how your website visitors engage with your blog entries if you have Content Analytics and Google Analytics installed and enabled. And, if you want to take your knowledge to the next level, Sumo’s Heat Maps feature will be right there for you.
The Heat Maps function works in the same way as Content Analytics: simply click to start monitoring, then select which sites to track from the Auto Record menu.
It provides a heat map showing where your visitors are clicking, rather than just tracking how far they scroll on your site.
This information is useful because it allows you to place your call-to-action in the most frequently visited places of your site, resulting in even more clicks.
This isn’t the same as the data-gathering analytics tools we just mentioned. You may use the Sumo user network to bring free visitors to your site using the “Discover App.”
This feature is best defined as a segment of sponsored content. If I display other Sumo content on my site, I will receive credits that I may use to have my content displayed on another user’s site – in other words, you scratch my back, and I scratch yours.
You can also use a scrollbox or a grid to display other people’s stuff — the formal is ideal for widget sections. You have complete control over how many listings you want to show, and you can choose the content category and language to ensure that the information is extremely relevant to your audience.
You can even construct a private network of content sharers if you want to collaborate with select webmasters.
You can see how many credits you’ve earned/spent at any moment by clicking on the Discover dashboard.
The Share app, as predicted, is designed to help you add social share buttons to your website.
There are roughly 70 services supported, and it has a lot of possibilities. You’ll simply have to drag and drop the ones you want, and you’ll be able to choose the maximum number of share buttons to display.
Aside from that, you can customise the look of your sharing buttons with three different styles, three different sizes, and an unlimited number of background colours.
Button sorting is perhaps my favourite feature. You can choose between manual and smart sorting, which allows you to optimise the order of your buttons for the most clicks. You can also choose to show share counters and specify a minimum threshold for them to appear.
That’s not all; the Layout tab in Sumo’s Share app includes another useful function. You’ll see an interactive representation of a mobile device and a laptop here that shows you where your buttons will appear. You can choose the position of your button on the screen by clicking on the white squares, and you can choose more than one.
Image sharer and highlighter
Sumo’s Image Sharer tool allows you to add social sharing buttons to your photographs, and it works with four different networks. By clicking on the icons, visitors can quickly share the image on social media.
The “Highlighter app” is the final social media function. Once enabled, visitors to your website can highlight a piece of your blog post and share it straight on Facebook or Twitter.
By syncing with Stripe’s payment gateway, the Sumo “Buy Button” allows you to turn your website into a contemporary e-commerce business. Although it isn’t as robust as WooCommerce, it is incredibly quick and simple to set up.
To make advantage of this functionality, first build a campaign, then create a new button. You can design every stage of the process, from the buy button to the cart to the checkout, and all the way to the success page, using the editor.
After that, you’ll need to create a product, give it a meaningful name, a description, upload a product image, manage stock levels, and set a pricing.
Return to the Campaign section and the Code Snippet tab once you’ve completed all of these steps. This is where you’ll copy the HTML code that you’ll put into the text editor in WordPress.
Visitors will notice a Buy button within your content when you publish it. When the button is pressed, the shopping cart appears, where visitors can alter their quantities.
Visitors can also utilise this window to finish their purchase by entering their credit card information. From the Buy Button app’s dashboard, you can track and control all of your orders on the backend.
The bulk of WordPress contact form plugins use shortcodes to display the forms. However, with Sumo, you enter your forms in the same way that you put social network buttons – by selecting the desired location and then letting Sumo do the rest.
